NEWSLETTER

  1. WELCOME TO TERM 3!

On behalf of the SGB and SMT, we would like to extend a hearty welcome to our staff, learners, and parents to the third academic term of the year. We wish to congratulate all our learners who have met the promotional requirements in Term 2, and to our learners who did not, we encourage you to work towards improvement in this term. We wish our staff, learners, and parents a successful term ahead!

  1. COLLECTION OF LEARNER PROGRESS REPORTS BY PARENTS

Parents who have not yet collected progress reports will be able to do so during Parents’ Evening.

  1. COMPULSORY PARENTS’ EVENING – TERM 3

Parents are requested to attend the compulsory Parents’ Evening as follows: Foundation Phase – Grades 1-3 & LSEN (27/07/2022 from 16:00-18:00). InterSen Phase – Grades 4-7 (28/07/2022 from 16:00-18:00). Parents must attend the meeting in order to set academic targets for learners, view learners’ assessment tasks and to discuss learners’ general conduct at school.

  1. COMMEMORATION OF MANDELA DAY AT MPS
  2. Special Assembly: In commemoration of Mandela Day, there will be a special assembly for InterSen Phase learners (Grades 4-7) on the 26th of July 2022 at 07:15. It is compulsory for InterSen Phase learners to attend wearing a white shirt and school tie. Foundation Phase (Grades 1-3 & LSEN) will have their special assembly on the 29th of July 2022 during school time.
  3. Mandela Day Book Drive: Nelson Mandela once said, “education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” With this in mind and our need to improve literacy and reading skills in our country, we encourage parents to support our school by donating (in good condition) or purchasing at least one (or more) children’s story books in contribution to our MANDELA DAY BOOK DRIVE. These books will be used to furnish our Media Centre for our learners to enjoy. The Book Drive will start immediately and will run until the end of Term 3 (30 September 2022). The class that collects the most books from the Foundation Phase and InterSen Phase will be treated to a surprise.
  4. REMINDER: FOUNDATION PHASE (GRADES 1-3 & LSEN) COMPULSORY WAITING CLASS

Parents are reminded of the compulsory waiting class from 13:00 for Foundation Phase learners. All Foundation Phase learners must be fetched from their classrooms by parents or transport operators. Learners will not be allowed to wait at the gate before 14:00.

  1. REMINDER: KAREE STREET GATE

Please note that the Karee Street gate will be open in the mornings and afternoons for drop off and collection of learners.

  1. REMINDER: NEW APPLICATIONS FOR GRADES 2-7 (2023)

Applications for new admissions in Grades 2-7 for 2023 are opened (09/05/2022 – 16/09/2022). Parents are welcome to apply at school between 09:00 and 13:00. Kindly ensure that the compulsory certified documents (not older than three months) are brought to school as listed below. No late applications will be accepted. Required documents: Certified copies: Birth certificate and both parent’s ID’s. Also submit recent/latest school report, and municipality account/lease agreement. Kindly bring a black pen.

  1. REMINDER: GRADE 1 AND GRADE 8 ONLINE APPLICATIONS FOR 2023

Applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 admissions are done online and are not conducted internally at schools. Online applications will open this week Friday, the 22nd of July 2022 at 08:00 and will close on the 19th of August 2022 at midnight. When applications open, parents can visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to apply.

  1. REMINDER: STEEL LOCKERS

Learners will be allowed to make use of school lockers from the beginning of Term 3 at a leasing cost of R50 payable to class teachers. We encourage parents to lease a locker for learners as this will assist in reducing the weight in their school bags. We also advise parents that under no circumstances will educators tolerate the excuse of leaving or forgetting books in the locker (incomplete homework). Using the locker comes with the responsibility of following your timetable and recording homework activities in the compulsory school diary. This will assist in knowing which books should be stored in the locker. Lockers will be available for learners in Grades 4-7 only.

  1. SCHOOL FEES

All parents are requested to ensure that their school fees account is up to date. School fees can be paid at the school’s finance office using debit or credit card or by direct deposit into the school’s bank account. No cash will be accepted.
