  1. COMPULSORY PARENTS’ MEETING

The newly elected School Governing Body (SGB) invites all parents/guardians to attend a compulsory parents’ meeting which will be held on the 9th of May 2024 at 17:00 sharp in the school hall. Among others, the 2023 academic results will be presented to parents. Key concerns that affect academic performance will be addressed as well as vital support and monitoring strategies for parents. We implore all parents/guardians to avail themselves for this compulsory meeting. A register will be taken on the day.

  1. FANTASIA

We are excited that our annual Fantasia will take place next week Friday, the 3rd of May 2024. There will be a host of fun rides and entertainment for our learners to enjoy. The entrance fee is R90 payable on the Karri App. Parents who are struggling to pay on the Karri App are welcome to seek assistance from the App call centre (021 300 1867 / support@karri.co.za). EFT payments are also accepted (Reference: Fantasia and your child’s name and surname). No cash will be accepted at school. We look forward to enjoying this fun-filled day with our learners.

  1. REMINDER: HPV VACCINES

Parents and guardians of Grade 5 girls are reminded that the HPV vaccine will be administered tomorrow, the 26th of April 2024 at school. Learners who have been given consent by their parents/guardians will be vaccinated by the Department of Health officials. Please note that only ONE dose will be administered.

  1. THE DEFAULT SYSTEM (MERITS AND DEMERITS)

Parents and guardians are hereby informed that learners’ merits and demerits will be electronically captured. Parents/guardians will receive an email/sms immediately when staff members assign merits/demerits. We appeal to parents/guardians to address demerits with their children. As per the Code of Conduct, we remind parents/guardians that when learners receive six demerits, they receive a warning letter. When they reach nine demerits, they go for detention. After three detentions, the learner will be suspended from school. We implore our parents/guardians to familiarise themselves with the school code of conduct which can be found in learners’ compulsory school diary.

  1. ASSESSMENT PLANS

All learners have been given the Term 2 assessment plans. We implore parents and learners to plan and prepare adequately for upcoming assessments. The Controlled Test programme for the Intersen Phase (Grades 4-7) will commence on the 22nd of May 2024 and conclude on the 05th of June 2024. The controlled test timetable will be issued soon. Assessment in the Foundation Phase (Grades 1-3 & LSEN) is continuous; therefore, learners must come to school daily and avoid unwarranted absence. With dedication, hard work, and perseverance, we believe that our learners will improve their Term 1 academic performance. We wish our learners all the best for their upcoming assessments and tests.

  1. GRADE 2-7 NEW APPLICATIONS FOR 2025

No late applications will be accepted. Required documents: Certified copy of birth certificate, certified copy of parent’s ID’s, recent/latest school report, and municipality account/lease agreement. 1. MONITORING OF LEARNERS’ CLASSWORK AND HOMEWORK

We urge all parents/guardians to make time to monitor their child’s work on a daily basis. We encourage random monitoring of learners’ books. When learners are aware that their parents are monitoring their books, learners will undoubtedly have their schoolwork updated. Educators leave valuable feedback and communication in learners’ books all the time, which requires the acknowledgement and response of parents/guardians. Ongoing feedback of learners’ performance is also reflected in their schoolbooks. We thank our parents/guardians for honouring this necessitated request.
