  1. FINAL REMINDER: MARKET DAY AND SPRING (CIVVIES) DAY

Parents/guardians and learners are reminded about the Market Day and Spring (Civvies) Day to be held tomorrow, the 30th of August 2024. Learners are encouraged to bring pocket money to support our Grade 7 young entrepreneurs who will be selling various goodies/products. Grade 1-6 learners can wear their Civvies at a cost of R20 payable on the Karri app.

  1. FAMILY FUNDAY

We remind our parents and learners about the Family Fun Day that will take place on the 14th of September 2024 from 8:00 – 14:00 to be held at Midrand Primary school bottom field. Tickets are available for purchase on the Karri App as follows: Entrance fee (R105pp on Karri App before 14/09/24), entrance and parking (R125 limited to the first 40 patrons), and entrance fee on the day (R120pp). There will be food stalls, competitions, entertainment, rides and games, water activities and many more surprises for all. Kindly note that cooler-boxes and alcohol are not permitted on the school premises. We encourage all our MPS families to come and have a great time at the Family Fun Day as we say goodbye to Winter and welcome Spring. This is an event not to be missed!

  1. TEXTBOOK RETRIEVAL

Learners’ textbooks will be retrieved for monitoring purposes and returned to learners on the 3-4/09/2024 (period 5-6). Letters will be issued for the payment (R250 per textbook) of textbooks that are lost/damaged. Learners must take care of their textbooks as they are the property of the state.

 

  1. WAITING AREAS TO BE USED FROM TERM 4

Parents/guardians are hereby informed of the following: Grade 1-3 & LSEN learners must be fetched from the compulsory waiting area at the Karee Steet entrance until 14:00. Learners who are not fetched by 14:00 must wait at the Poplar Street waiting area at the bottom gate. The previous Foundation Phase gate will no longer be used to exit the school in the afternoons. Grade 4-7 learners must be fetched from the compulsory waiting area at the bottom gate on Poplar Street after school. We emphasize that learners must be fetched IMMEDIATELY after school. Loitering after school will not be tolerated.

  1. BANNING OF SOCCER AND OTHER SPORTS BALLS

Due to numerous windows being broken and unnecessary fighting on the field, parents and learners are hereby informed that all balls are banned with immediate effect until further notice. Any balls brought to school will be confiscated and returned at the end of the academic year.

  1. EXTRA-MURAL RESULTS

SHOW YOUR TALENTS: Show your talents competition was held on 10/08/2024. Twenty-six learners participated from our school: 14 for visual art, 2 for vocal duo and 10 for Marimba. Eight out of the 14 learners received gold and 6 received silver. Simangele Nsele received a medal for top 10 in visual art. The vocal duo also received gold. The Marimba band received high gold and Position 1 from the top 10 instrumental section. The learners who received gold medals have been invited to be part of team South Africa in 2025 who will be competing in New York, America. Congratulations to our learners and their coaches on this momentous milestone.

ALLEGRETTO INTER PROVINCIAL EISTEDDFOD: The music team participated in the above competition on 11/08/2024 under the categories of vocal duo, recorder ensemble, Marimba and solo instrumental. Peniel Mathlaba and Tamzia Ragovan received gold for their vocal due. The Marimba band received gold for their performance. The recorder ensemble band obtained gold. Peniel Mathlaba and Clara Mbakou also received gold for their instrumental performance. Our learners will participate in the National Eisteddfod in September. Congratulations to our learners and their coaches on their outstanding performances.

GAUTENG ART FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL: The Visual Art team participated in an Art festival held at our school, honouring Women’s month. The 10 learners received a certificate of achievement. We congratulate our learners and the organizers of the event.

SEGARONA ART AND CULTURE EISTEDDFOD: Kindly take note of the results obtained for the above competition: Khayelihle Buthelezi from grade 1 received gold for poetry. Akanoha Maseke in Grade 3 received Gold for public speaking, Lesika in Grade 2 received Silver for public speaking and Refentse Sephadi in Grade 5 received bronze for public speaking. The Mime group received Position 2. Luthando Nsele received position 1 for visual art. Luyanda Mntambo in grade 4 received position 3 in Visual Art, Ife Kang received Position 1 in Visual Art. Kgothatso Ngoepe in grade 7 received Position 2 in Visual Art and Lethabo Ramakou in grade 7 received Position 1 in visual Art in their respective categories. The Marimba band received Position 1 and Peniel Mathlaba received Position 2 for instrumental solo. The Marimba band, Ife Kang and Lethabo Ramakou will proceed to the provincial round of the competition. Well done to our learners and their coaches. Keep up the excellent work!

GAUTENG ART FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL: Some of our learners participated in a dance festival at Wendywood. The group received the best dance group. Afunwaho Tshikhovhokhovo received a certificate for a promising dancer in the senior category and Tshiriletso Bonoko received a certificate for the best dancer in the intermediate category. Well done to our dancing stars and their coaches.

WITS MATHEMATICS COMPETITION: Alakhe Kwesaba, Boreadi Maelane and Obajuwonlo Osundiran are the three learners who qualified to participate in the final round of the competition which will be taking place in Wits university on the 18th of September 2024. We congratulate our learners and their teachers.

MATIFIC MATHS COMPETITION: Our school received Position 13 out of 100 schools for this Mathematics competition. Twenty-four learners received ruby, 4 learners received gold, 9 learners received silver, and 21 learners received bronze. Husna Goolam received number 1 for grade 4, Osundiran Obajuwonlo received number 1 in grade 5 and Amahle Zwane received number 1 in the grade 6 and 7 category. Congratulations to our learners and their respective Mathematics educators.

 

  1. SCHOOL FEES

All parents are requested to ensure that their school fees account is up to date. School fees can be paid at the school’s finance office using debit or credit card or by direct deposit into the school’s bank account. No cash will be accepted.
