1. SPRING DAY

Spring Day will be commemorated tomorrow, the 4^th of September 2026. Learners will be allowed to wear civvies to school at a cost of R15 payable on the Karri App. Make-up is not allowed and learners must be dressed respectfully. We expect maximum co-operation in this regard.

 

2. POSTPONEMENT UPDATE: GRADE 7 ENTREPRENEURS DAY 2026

Parents/guardians and learners are hereby informed that due to potential inclement weather, the Grade 7 Entrepreneurs Day will be postponed to the 9^th of September 2026. Grade 7 learners have received communication in this regard. Learners are encouraged to bring pocket money to support our Grade 7 young entrepreneurs who will be selling various goodies/products. We wish our learners all the best for their Entrepreneurs Day next week.

 

3. HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATIONS AT MPS & EARLY RELEASE OF LEARNERS

Parents, guardians, and learners are hereby notified that Heritage Day will be commemorated on the 22^ND of September 2026. Learners will be allowed to come to school attired in their respective cultural clothing at no cost. There will be a special assembly, so learners must be punctual. We encourage all our learners and staff members to represent their heritage and culture by showcasing their cultural attire on the day. Due to the staff attending a workshop, all learners will be released at 11:00am. An early release letter was issued to learners last week. Parents/guardians must ensure that learners are fetched immediately after release as staff members will not be available in the waiting area. NO CIVVIES OR MAKE-UP WILL BE ALLOWED. PARENTS MUST MONITOR WHAT LEARNERS WEAR TO SCHOOL.

 

4. VERY IMPORTANT! INCIDENTS HAPPENING OUTSIDE SCHOOL PREMISES

Learners committing acts of misconduct outside the school premises will be charged in accordance with the school code of conduct, especially if they transgress while wearing the school uniform. The school has authority over such learners because their acts might bring the name of the school into disrepute. In addition, the school has a duty to always foster healthy relationships between and among learners. However, the school will not be held legally liable (even for negligence) if such acts happen outside the school premises (after school hours), except in instances where learners are on an official school excursion. Learners are therefore supposed to report acts of misconduct to their register teacher, who will then escalate the matter to the Departmental Head, then to the Deputy Principal and the Principal, respectively. Parents are humbly requested to note this communication flow. To this end, parents are once again requested to have their children fetched immediately after 14h00 – this is the best solution to circumvent unpalatable after-school incidents.

 

5. NOTICE OF THE AGM FOR 2026

Parents and guardians are hereby invited to attend the AGM to be held on the 5th of November 2026 at 17:00. Letters will be issued to parents on the 3^rd of October 2025 upon the collection of progress reports. It is imperative that parents/guardians attend this important meeting. We look forward to meeting with you.

7. COMMUNICATION RISK

There is a growing concern that some of the parents/guardians do not answer telephone calls from the school. This is viewed in a very serious light because it poses a major risk in cases of emergency, where reaching the parent/guardian is a matter of life and death. We implore all parents/guardians to ensure that calls from the school are accepted.

 

8. PATTERNS OF REGULAR ABSENTEEISM

Class teachers have reported an increase in the number of learners who are regularly absent from school. This is a serious concern for many reasons. It disturbs the learners’ process of learning, creates content gaps and often results in learners missing assessments which are being written on a continuous basis. We implore all parents to ensure that learners attend school on a daily basis. In cases of emergency, ill health or other VALID reasons for absence, parents/guardians must communicate with the class teacher via learners’ compulsory diary. Evidence must be provided, where necessary. A register is being kept and communicated with the District on a weekly basis for learners who are regularly absent without valid reason. We expect maximum co-operation in this regard.

 

9. DROPPING OFF LUNCH/BOOKS OR ANY OTHER ITEMS AT SCHOOL IS NOT ALLOWED

As communicated on several occasions, we remind parents/guardians that dropping off lunch/meals, books, projects or other items for learners is strictly prohibited. We expect our learners to be responsible and not leave their lunches/meals at home. We also remind parents to ensure that learners are organized and prepared the day before so that they do not forget to bring their books and assessments/projects to school as per their timetables and assessment plans. This is non-negotiable. This has been effected due to learner safety concerns and we expect our parents and guardians to co-operate with the school.

 

10. DETENTION CONCERNS

More learners are accumulating defaults as a result of late coming – and we know that this is not the responsibility of a learner, but that of a parent/guardian/transport operator. Nevertheless, such a learner ends up in detention – and this can be demoralising to learners that are well-behaved and performing brilliantly in their academics. We therefore plead with you (parents/guardians) to ensure that learners are brought to school on time. Detentions are conducted on Fridays (14h00-15h00), and they should not be deemed as punishment, but a corrective measure meant to improve learners’ conduct, as per the School Code of Conduct. Parents/guardians should therefore support the school in this regard.

 

11. GRADE 4-7 OVERNIGHT CAMPS

Parents and guardians are reminded of the Grade 4-7 overnight camps. Please note that for learners to attend camp, their school fees account must be up to date. All payments must be made on the Karri App. Kindly note that there are limited spaces based on first-come first-served principle. The deposit of R1000 was due by 31 July 2026. Parents are still welcome to make payments until the cutoff date. The cutoff date for the full payment is TOMORROW, the 04^th of September 2026 after which NO PAYMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED (except for Grade 4 which is due on 18/09/2026)! By this date, the full payment must reflect on Karri.

12. GRADE 1 AND GRADE 8 ONLINE APPLICATIONS FOR 2027

Applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 admissions are done online and are NOT conducted internally at schools. Online applications opened on the 5^th of August 2026 and will close tomorrow, the 04^th of September 2026. We implore parents to apply early to avoid placement issues. Parents/guardians can visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to apply.

 

13. REMINDER: 2027 STATIONERY REQUIREMENTS

Parents and guardians are reminded that the purchasing of learner stationery and exercise books for the 2027 academic year is solely the responsibility of parents/guardians as per the Parents’ meeting resolution taken this year. We emphasize that this is being done to ensure that ALL learner stationery requirements are met so that teaching and learning can effectively commence on day one of the 2027 academic year. 14. SCHOOL FEES

Midrand Primary school is a Quintile 5 school, which means that it is a fee-paying school. All parents are requested to ensure that their school fees account is up to date. School fees can be paid at the school’s finance office using debit or credit card or by direct deposit into the school’s bank account. No cash will be accepted.
