  1. WELCOME TO TERM 4!

On behalf of the SMT and SGB of Midrand Primary School, we extend a warm welcome to our staff, learners, and parents to the final academic term of the year. We hope that everyone enjoyed the short break. We encourage parents to support learners in completing all their assessment tasks on time and to begin preparations for the final examination/controlled tests (timetable will be issued soon). We encourage all our learners to strive for excellence. We wish our staff and learners all the best for the final academic term of 2026.

 

  1. STAFFING MATTERS

We hereby inform our school community that Ms. T. Mavundla has taken a transfer to another school and we wish her all the best at her new school. We warmly welcome two new staff members to the MPS family: Mrs. Agus, a newly appointed Grade 5 educator who has replaced Ms. T. Mavundla. We also welcome Ms. Adams, our newly appointed school counsellor. We wish our two new colleagues all the best in their respective roles. We also announce that Mrs. Terblanche has assumed the position of Acting Deputy Principal (Foundation Phase) for term 4. Mrs. Rampersadh and Mrs. Boltman have assumed the roles of Acting Departmental Heads (Foundation Phase) for term 4. We wish these colleagues all the best in their new roles for the final academic term of 2026.

 

  1. REMINDER: RE-REGISTRATIONS FOR 2027

Parents/guardians will receive a re-registration letter tomorrow, 9 October 2026 with a reply slip that must be completed and returned to class teachers no later than Tuesday, 13 October 2026. Re-registrations will take place online through a link sent to the email address on our system. Parents who experience difficulties registering online can contact or visit the school for assistance. Forms will be issued electronically to all parents/guardians to complete and pay the re-registration fee. Re-registration commenced on the 21ST of September 2026 and will conclude on 30th of November 2026, together with the re-registration payment of R2000.00 which will be deducted from the 2027 school fees. Payment arrangements, where required, must be made by the 30th of October 2026. We thank our parents/guardians for their continued co-operation.

 

  1. COLLECTION OF TERM 3 PROGRESS REPORTS: BY PARENTS/GUARDIANS ONLY

Parents or guardians who did not collect learners’ progress reports at the end of Term 3 can do so during Parents’ Evening which will be held next week (see the item below). Every learner has a right to receive their academic progress reports on a termly basis, aligning to the National Protocol for Assessment (NPA) government policy. Parents must therefore abide by this legislative expectation.

 

  1. COMPULSORY PARENTS’ EVENING – TERM 4 2026

Parents and guardians are invited to attend the Term four COMPULSORY Parents’ Evening that will take place on the 15TH of October 2026 strictly from 16:00 – 18:00 (no late comers). Parents will have the opportunity to view learners’ Term three assessments and set academic targets for Term four. Parents will also have the opportunity to discuss academic results with subject educators as well as view learners’ cumulative defaults/demerits. At least one parent/guardian must attend this important meeting.

 

 

 

 

  1. REMINDER: NOTICE OF THE AGM FOR 2026

Parents and guardians are reminded to attend the AGM to be held on the 5th of November 2026 at 17:00. Letters will be issued to parents on the 23rd of September 2026 during the collection of progress reports. It is imperative that parents/guardians attend this important meeting. We look forward to meeting with you.

 

  1. EXTRA-MURAL COMPETITION RESULTS
  2. THE STORY SKIRMISH COMETITION RESULTS

The Story Skirmish team competed in the first round of the competition which was held at Midrand Primary school on the 25th of August 2026. The team was successful and will progress to the Zonal round on the 12th of October 2026. We congratulate the coach, Ms. Phokgola and her team for this milestone. We encourage our learners to continue to read books!

 

  1. THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS COMPETITON RESULTS

The Battle of the Books team competed in the first round of the competition which was held at Midrand Primary school on the 25th of August 2026. The team was successful and will progress to the Zonal round on the 13th of October 2026. We congratulate the coach, Mr. Govender and his team for this milestone. We encourage our learners to continue to read books!

 

  1. Kindly note that all school-based extra-mural activities will end for the 2026 academic year on the 16th of October 2026.

 

  1. FINAL REMINDER: VERY IMPORTANT! INCIDENTS HAPPENING OUTSIDE SCHOOL PREMISES

Learners committing acts of misconduct outside the school premises will be charged in accordance with the school code of conduct, especially if they transgress while wearing the school uniform. The school has authority over such learners because their acts might bring the name of the school into disrepute. In addition, the school has a duty to always foster healthy relationships between and among learners. However, the school will not be held legally liable (even for negligence) if such acts happen outside the school premises (after school hours), except in instances where learners are on an official school excursion. Learners are therefore supposed to report acts of misconduct to their register teacher, who will then escalate the matter to the Departmental Head, then to the Deputy Principal and the Principal, respectively. Parents are humbly requested to note this communication flow. To this end, parents are once again requested to have their children fetched immediately after 14h00 – this is the best solution to circumvent unpalatable after-school incidents.

 

  1. FINAL REMINDER: COMMUNICATION RISK

There is a growing concern that some of the parents/guardians do not answer telephone calls from the school. This is viewed in a very serious light because it poses a major risk in cases of emergency, where reaching the parent/guardian is a matter of life and death. We implore all parents/guardians to ensure that calls from the school are accepted.

 

  1. FINAL REMINDER: PATTERNS OF REGULAR ABSENTEEISM

Class teachers have reported an increase in the number of learners who are regularly absent from school. This is a serious concern for many reasons. It disturbs the learners’ process of learning, creates content gaps and often results in learners missing assessments which are being written on a continuous basis. We implore all parents to ensure that learners attend school on a daily basis. In cases of emergency, ill health or other VALID reasons for absence, parents/guardians must communicate with the class teacher via learners’ compulsory diary. Evidence must be provided, where necessary. A register is being kept and communicated with the District on a weekly basis for learners who are regularly absent without valid reason. We expect maximum co-operation in this regard. The school has a legal duty to report suspected cases of child neglect, and this is normally identified through unexplained regular absenteeism by some learners. The school will complete Form 22 in line with the SBST policy, and an investigation will ensue, driven by social workers and the GDE.

 

  1. FINAL REMINDER: DROPPING OFF LUNCH/BOOKS OR ANY OTHER ITEMS AT SCHOOL IS NOT ALLOWED

As communicated on several occasions, we remind parents/guardians that dropping off lunch/meals, books, projects or other items for learners is strictly prohibited. We expect our learners to be responsible and not leave their lunches/meals at home. We also remind parents to ensure that learners are organized and prepared the day before so that they do not forget to bring their books and assessments/projects to school as per their timetables and assessment plans. This is non-negotiable. This has been effected due to learner safety concerns and we expect our parents and guardians to co-operate with the school.

 

  1. REMINDER: 2027 STATIONERY REQUIREMENTS

Parents and guardians are reminded that the purchasing of learner stationery and exercise books for the 2027 academic year is solely the responsibility of parents/guardians as per the Parents’ meeting resolution taken this year. We emphasize that this is being done to ensure that ALL learner stationery requirements are met so that teaching and learning can effectively commence on day one of the 2027 academic year.   1. SCHOOL FEES

Midrand Primary school is a Quintile 5 school, which means that it is a fee-paying school. All parents are requested to ensure that their school fees account is up to date. School fees can be paid at the school’s finance office using debit or credit card or by direct deposit into the school’s bank account. No cash will be accepted.
